ENTRY BEHAVIOUR

Pupils have previously learned about Songs and Music with Nigerian Identity, Nigerian music composers, and music composition. They have also learned about Drama and Theatre, including the meaning and elements of drama.

This lesson builds on that knowledge by teaching pupils how to create and perform a simple play based on the themes of honesty, integrity, and right attitude to work.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON

INTRODUCTION

Every day, we make choices that show whether we are honest, have integrity, and have the right attitude to work. Drama and plays help us learn these good values in an interesting and practical way. By acting out different situations, we can understand the importance of telling the truth, doing the right thing, and working hard.

In this lesson, pupils will learn how to create and perform simple plays with the themes of honesty, integrity, and right attitude to work, while developing confidence, teamwork, and good moral values.

LESSON 1 – MEANING OF A PLAY

A play is a story written to be acted on a stage or before an audience. It has characters, dialogue, and actions that communicate a message or teach a lesson.

MEANING OF HONESTY

Honesty means always telling the truth, being sincere, and not cheating, stealing, or deceiving others.

Examples of Honesty

1. Telling the truth even when it is difficult.

2. Returning a lost item to its owner.

3. Admitting one’s mistakes.

4. Refusing to cheat during a test.

MEANING OF INTEGRITY

Integrity means doing the right thing at all times, even when no one is watching. A person with integrity is honest, trustworthy, and has strong moral values.

Examples of Integrity

1. Keeping promises.

2. Refusing to take what does not belong to you.

3. Obeying rules without being forced.

4. Being fair to everyone.

MEANING OF RIGHT ATTITUDE TO WORK

Right attitude to work means doing every task willingly, responsibly, carefully, honestly, and on time.

Examples of Right Attitude to Work

1. Completing assignments on time.

2. Keeping the classroom clean.

3. Respecting teachers and classmates.

4. Working hard during class activities.

5. Taking good care of school property.

LESSON 2 – STEPS IN CREATING A PLAY

1. Choose a theme (Honesty, Integrity, or Right Attitude to Work).

2. Decide on the characters.

3. Write a simple story with a beginning, middle, and ending.

4. Write the dialogue for each character.

5. Rehearse the play.

6. Perform the play before an audience.

SIMPLE PLAY

1. CREATING A PLAY WITH THE THEME: THE HONEST PUPILS

Title: The Honest Pupil

Characters: Teacher, Tunde, Ada, Narrator

Narrator: One day, Tunde found a wallet in the classroom.

• Tunde: I found this wallet. I will give it to the teacher.

• Teacher: Thank you, Tunde. You have shown honesty and integrity.

• Ada: Tunde has set a good example for all of us.

• Teacher: We should always be honest and have the right attitude to work.

Narrator: Everyone clapped for Tunde because he did the right thing.

Moral Lesson: Honesty, integrity, and hard work bring respect and trust.

2. CREATING A PLAY WITH THE THEME OF INTEGRITY

Title: Doing the Right Thing

Characters: Narrator, Teacher, Tola, Musa

Narrator: One morning, the teacher asked the pupils to submit their homework.

• Teacher: Good morning, class. Please submit your homework.

• Musa: (Whispers to Tola) I forgot to do my homework. Can I copy yours?

• Tola: No, Musa. That would not be honest. You should tell the teacher the truth.
• Musa: You are right. I will be truthful.

• Teacher: Musa, where is your homework?

• Musa: I am sorry, Ma. I forgot to do it. I will complete it today and submit it tomorrow.
• Teacher: Thank you for telling the truth. You have shown integrity by being honest instead of copying someone else’s work.

• Tola: Doing the right thing is always better than cheating.

Narrator: Musa learned that people with integrity tell the truth and do the right thing, even when it is difficult.

Moral Lesson: Always do the right thing, be honest, and show integrity in e verything you do.

CREATING A PLAY WITH THE THEME: RIGHT ATTITUDE TO WORK

Title: A Good Worker

Characters: Narrator, Teacher, Chidi, Amina

Narrator: The teacher asked the pupils to clean the classroom before the lesson began.

• Teacher: Children, please sweep the classroom and arrange your desks neatly.

• Amina: Yes, Ma. Let us start now.

• Chidi: I don’t feel like working. I will just sit down.

• Amina: Chidi, we should all do our part. A good pupil works hard and helps others.

• Chidi: You are right. I will help too. (Chidi joins Amina in sweeping and arranging the classroom.)

• Teacher: Well done, children! You worked together and completed the task on time.

• Chidi: I have learned that having the right attitude to work means being hardworking, responsible, and willing to help.

Narrator: The classroom became neat, and everyone was happy because they worked together.

Moral Lesson: Always have the right attitude to work by being hardworking, responsible, cooperative, and punctual.

IMPORTANCE OF CREATING PLAYS WITH GOOD THEMES

Creating plays about honesty, integrity, and the right attitude to work helps pupils to:

SUMMARY
