PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES
By the end of the lesson, the pupils should have attained the following objectives (cognitive, affective and psychomotor) and should be able to –
1. recite the poem on air.
2. mention the uses of air.
ENTRY BEHAVIOUR
The pupils know that all living things need air.
INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS
The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of:
1. Garden soil, glass, water, bowl. Sources of heat, balloons.
2. Bicycle tube.
3. Bicycle pump.
METHOD OF TEACHING
Choose a suitable and appropriate methods for the lessons.
Note – Irrespective of choosing methods of teaching, always introduce an activities that will arouse pupil’s interest or lead them to the lessons.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON
LESSON 1 – INTRODUCTORY QUESTIONS
Teacher’s Activities – Leads the pupils to recite the poem on air.
Pupil’s Activities – Response to the teacher’s questions.
- We breathe in and breathe out air.
- We cannot see air but feel when it blow.
- Air has no colour, taste or odour.
- All living things need air.
- Man, animals and plants would die without it.
Teacher’s remark – A great cheer for quick recall. Ask them to state the uses of air based on the assignment given in the previous lesson – Description of Air | Things to make you feel the presence of Air Primary 1 (Basic 1) – Agriculture. Listen to the pupils, support their responses and write their points on the board.
USES OF AIR
Teacher’s/Pupil’s Activities – Guides pupils to identify, demonstrate and state the uses of air.
1. It is used for breathing – breath in air and breath out air.
2. It is used to inflate tyres, balloons, balls
3. It is used for cooling our body when we feel hot.
4. It support burning.
5. It supports movement.
LESSON 2 – PRACTICAL DEMONSTRATION OF SOME USES OF AIR
Activity 1
Teacher’s/Pupil’s Activities – Take the pupils for a walk to the nearest vulcanizer to ask for the importance of air in tyres.
Activity 2
Teacher’s/Pupil’s Activities – Use candle and a container with cover to demonstrate how air support burning.
ASSIGNMENT
Find out the meaning of air pollution.
PRESENTATION
To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:
1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;
2. Guides to identify and state the uses of air.
Pupil’s Activities – Identify and state the uses of air.
3. Summarizes the lesson on the board.
Pupil’s Activities – Copy as the teacher writes.
CONCLUSION
To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson.
