PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES 

By the end of the lesson, the pupils should have attained the following objectives (cognitive, affective and psychomotor) and should be able to –

state some uses of tuber crops.

ENTRY BEHAVIOUR

The pupils can state the importance of tuber crops.

 

INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS

The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of:

1. Samples of stem tuber crops.

2. Samples of root tuber crops.

METHOD OF TEACHING

Choose a suitable and appropriate methods for the lessons.

Note – Irrespective of choosing methods of teaching, always introduce an activities that will arouse pupil’s interest or lead them to the lessons.

WRITING INSTRUCTION 

Copy as I write or draw as I write. This instruction should be given when you need the pupils to write or draw.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON  

LESSON ONE – INTRODUCTORY ACTIVITIES 

Teacher’s Activities – Display some byproduct of tuber crops such plantain chips, garri, starch and ask the pupils to identify and state what they are made from.

Pupil’s Activities – Garri is made from cassava, plantain chips are made from plantain, etc.

Teacher’s remarks – A great cheer for quick response. Tuber crops are source of food and energy for man. Discuss other uses of food.

Copy as I write on the board.

USES OF TUBER CROPS 

1. They are used making soup.

For example Irish potatoes and onions.

2. They are used making chips – potatoes.

3. They are used for making flowers.

For example yam (poundo yam), cassava (bread and amala), potatoes, etc.

3. They are used for making garri, for example cassava.

4. They are used for making starch.

5. They are used making juice – carrots.

6. They are source of vitamins and carbohydrates.

 

PRESENTATION

To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:

1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;

2. Discuss the uses of tuber crops.

Pupil’s Activities – Active participation in the class discussion.

3. Summarizes the lesson on the board.

Pupil’s Activities – Copy as the teacher writes.

CONCLUSION

To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson.
