TOPIC: USING LINKS WORDS (ALTHOUGH, EVEN THOUGH) 

 

 

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

By the end of the lesson, most of the pupils should have attained the following objectives –

1. Read and understand passages containing sentences with more than one clause.

2. Know the correct use of although, even though and because, etc.

3. Use these in sentences of their own.

 

 

INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS

The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of:

3. Substitution table on a board

PASSAGE ON THE LINKING WORDS IN THE LONG AND SHORT SENTENCE LINKING TWO SENTENCES 

A conjunction is a word that link words, phrases and clauses together.

 

For example –

  • Although
  • Even Though
  • Because
  • Whereas
  • But, etc.

 

A. LINKING WORDS WITH ALTHOUGH 

1. He is poor.

He works hard.

He is poor although he works hard.

 

2. He was playful.

He failed his examination because he was playful.

Example Sentences with Although

 

3. It rained all day.

We enjoyed the party very much.

 

4. He failed in the exam.

He studied very hard.

 

5. She ran very fast

She lost the race.

 

6. They didn’t go to the party.

They were invited.

 

B. LINKING WORDS WITH EVEN THOUGH 

1. They were millionaires.

They drive old cars.

 

2. We are still very hungry.

We ate very much.

 

3. She was very tired.

She decided to go out.

 

4. He had a good time with his family.

He was very busy yesterday.

 

C. LINKING WORDS WITH BECAUSE 

1. She usually eats at home.

She likes cooking.

 

2. The girl ran.

She was afraid.

 

3. He is delighted.

I am here.

 

4. I like Samuel.

He is honest.

 

D. LINKING WORDS WITH WHEREAS 

1. We did all the job.

They enjoyed themselves.

 

2. He is careful

I take risks.

 

3. All of my sisters are doctors.

I am a teacher.

 

4. She is careful.

He takes risks

 

F. LINKING WORDS WITH BUT 

1. I am very hungry.

The fridge is empty.

 

2. I love dogs.

I hate cats.

 

3. I want to call his.

I don’t have his phone number.

 

 

PRESENTATION

To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:

1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;

2. Guides pupils to see and understand the connection between two short sentences to be linked;

Pupil’s Activities – Read passage given by the teacher and make one long sentence from two short sentences and break long sentences into short notes.

3. Discusses with pupils which of the link words ought to be used;

4. Does several sentences with the class;

5. Answer comprehension questions based on the passage.

 

CONCLUSION

  • To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson.

 

 

LESSON EVALUATION

Teacher asks pupils to, 

1. Read and understand passage containing sentences with two clauses.

2. Know the correct use of although and even though and because, etc.

3. Use these in sentences of their own.
