CONTENT OF THE LESSON

INTRODUCTION

A personal opinion is what a person thinks or feels about something. It is not always a fact, but it shows a person’s idea, belief, or view.

Different people may have different opinions about the same thing.

Opinion Words

When we express our personal opinion, we use words like:

  • I think
  • I believe
  • I feel
  • In my opinion

Examples:

  • I think school is very important.
  • I believe reading books is good.
  • In my opinion, teachers are helpful.
  • I feel that learning English is easy.

Features of Opinion Writing

  • It expresses what the writer thinks.
  • It may not be a fact.
  • It uses opinion words.
  • It gives reasons for ideas.
  • Sample Composition.

Importance of Personal Opinion

Personal opinion helps pupils to:

  • express their ideas clearly.
  • give reasons for their thoughts.
  • improve speaking and writing skills.
  • communicate confidently.

In this lesson, pupils will learn how to express their own opinions correctly in sentences and compositions.

COMPOSITION PRACTICE

Writing Composition Involving Expression of Personal Opinion:

1. My Opinion About School

In my opinion, school is very important. I believe that every child should go to school. I feel that school helps us to learn many useful things.

I think teachers are very important because they help us to understand our lessons. I also believe that studying hard will help me become successful in life.

In conclusion, I think school is a good place for learning and building a better future.

2. I like living in a city better than in a village

In my opinion, I like living in a city better than in a village. Cities are more developed and have many good facilities such as good roads, hospitals, schools, and markets.

Life in the city is more comfortable because everything is easier to get. There are many opportunities for education and employment in the city. People also enjoy better transportation and electricity.

Although villages are peaceful and have fresh air, I still prefer living in a city because of its modern development and advantages. In conclusion, I believe that living in a city is better than living in a vill age.

3. Farmer is better than the teacher

In my opinion, I do not agree that a farmer is better than a teacher. I believe that both farmers and teachers are very important in society.

Farmers produce food for people to eat, while teachers educate children and help them to become useful and successful in life. Without farmers, there would be no food, and without teachers, there would be no knowledge.

Both of them play different important roles in the society. In conclusion, I think farmers and teachers are equally important and one is not better than the ot her.

4. Books are better than films

In my opinion, I believe that books are better than films. Books help us to gain more knowledge and improve our reading and writing skills.

Reading books also develops our imagination because we create pictures in our minds. Books teach us many lessons and improve our vocabulary.

Although films are interesting and entertaining, they do not give as much detail as books. In conclusion, I think books are more useful and better than films.

5. Giving youths mobile phones at an early age is harmful

In my opinion, giving youths mobile phones at an early age is harmful. I believe that young children may not be able to use mobile phones wisely.

Mobile phones can distract children from their studies and reduce their concentration in school. They may also expose children to bad content and unhealthy habits if not properly guided by adults.

Although mobile phones can be useful for learning and communication, I still think that young children should be carefully supervised when using them. In conclusion, I believe that giving mobile phones to youths at an early age can be harmful if not properly controlled.
