LEARNING OBJECTIVES 

By the end of the lesson, pupils should be able to:

ENTRY BEHAVIOUR

The pupils have previously learned how to write meaningful sentences and compositions. In this lesson, they will use those skills to write an informal letter.

INTRODUCTION

Meaning of an Informal Letter

An informal letter is a letter written to friends, parents, brothers, sisters, relatives, or other people we know personally.

PARTS OF AN INFORMAL LETTER 

1. Writer’s Address

4. Body of the Letter

5. Closing

6. Writer’s Name

GUIDELINES FOR WRITING AN INFORMAL LETTER

1. Write the Writer’s Address at the top right or left corner.

2. Write the Date below the address.

3. Write the Salutation (Greeting), such as:

  • Dear John,
  • Dear Mary,

4. Write the Body of the Letter:

  • Begin with a friendly greeting.
  • State the reason for writing the letter.
  • Give relevant information clearly and simply.

5. Write the Closing, such as:

  • Yours sincerely,
  • Your loving friend,

6. Write Your Name below the closing.

7. Use simple and correct language.

8. Write in short paragraphs.

9. Check your spelling, punctuation, and grammar.

10. Keep the letter friendly and polite.

PRESENTATION

To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:
