By the end of the lesson, most of the pupils should have attained the following objectives –

1. explain the meaning of dance.

2. state the importance of dance.

3. performance a simple dance.

The pupils can demonstrate some dance steps.

 

 

INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS

The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of music player, chart showing people dancing.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON 

LESSON 1 – INTRODUCTION 

Everybody can dance even when you think you are not.

Dance can be as simple as shaking or moving your body.

Dance is the movement of the body that match the musical rhythm.

 

FORMS OF DANCE 

The purposes of dance can be groups as follows:

 

1. Ceremony

2. Recreation

3. Self Expression

4. Exercise

 

1. CEREMONIAL DANCE 

Ceremonial dance is a cultural, traditional, religious or ritualistic form performed in a special occasion such as war dance, prayer, thanksgiving, healing, invocation, fighting evils, inviting gods, etc.

 

2. RECREATIONAL DANCE

Recreational dance is a fun free dance for social, educational or health benefits.

 

3. SELF EXPRESSION

Self expression dance is the form of dance such as facial expressions, bodies, eye contact, eye lashes, hands, legs, finger,

 

4. EXERCISE

Dancing is a whole body exercise.

This form of dance is mostly fun used for physical and mental development.

 

 

LESSON 3 – IMPORTANCE OF DANCE 

Dance is an important part of culture and society.

 

The importance of dance are as follows:

1. It is a form of exercise.

2. It burns calories.

3. It provides physical and mental refreshment.

4. It improves balance.

5. It increases muscular strength.

6. It is a form of entertainment.

7. It improves better coordination, agility and flexibility.

8. It is a profession.

9. It is the best way to express feelings.

10. It has a healing power.

11. It makes the bones stronger and reduced risk of osteoporosis.

12. It improves the condition of your heart and lungs.

13. It manages the body weight.

 

PRACTICE AND  PERFORMANCE 

Teacher organizes pupils in groups or pairs depending on the size of the class to practice and perform basic dance movements.

 

LESSON 3 – DANCE CONTEST 

Teacher organizes pupils in groups or pairs depending on the size of the class for dancing competition with prizes.

 

 

PRESENTATION

To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:

1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;

2. Teacher organizes pupils in groups or pairs depending on the size of the class.

3. Teacher displays chart showing people dancing or play a short dance moves.

4. Teacher asks pupils to identify and describe the content of the chart or video.

Pupil’s Activities – Identification and describe the meaning of dance.

5. Teacher uses the chart and pupil’s responses to introduce the lesson and leads a discussion on the meaning and importance of dancing.

Pupil’s Activities – Pay attention to the lesson introduction to understand the concept.

 

6. Teacher lets pupils to perform their societal or cultural dance.

Pupil’s Activities – Analyze and perform their cultural and societal dance.

7. Teacher leads a discussion on the forms of dance.

Pupil’s Activities – Analyze the important forms of dance in their communities.

8. Teacher organizes dance practice, performance and contest.

Pupil’s Activities – Participate actively in the dancing competition.

9. Teacher summarizes the lessons on the board with appropriate lesson evaluation.

Pupil’s Activities – Participate actively in the summary of the lesson by responding to the questions and write as instructed.

To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson.
