2. Demonstration of Basic and Butterfly Swimming Strokes
PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES
By the end of the lesson, the pupils should have attained the following objectives (cognitive, affective and psychomotor):
1. list the basic skills in swimming;
2. demonstrate the basic skills in swimming.
ENTRY BEHAVIOR
The pupils are required to already have learned swimming strokes.
INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS
The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of –
1. Charts
2. Pictures
3. Video clip
4. Swimming pool
5. Whistle
6. Swimming costume
7. Swimming trunks.
METHOD OF TEACHING – Choose a suitable and appropriate methods for the lessons.
Note – Irrespective of choosing methods of teaching, always introduce an activities that will arouse pupil’s interest or lead them to the lessons.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON
LESSON ONE – INTRODUCTION (SWIMMING STROKES)
The most common swimming strokes or styles are the freestyle stroke, the breaststroke, the backstroke and the butterfly stroke.
They are well-known because they are used in swimming competitions.
In this lesson, we are going to be learning back and butterfly swimming strokes.
BASIC SWIMMING STROKES
The common swimming strokes or styles are:
BACK SWIMMING STROKE
Backstroke is swum on the back. It is faster than breaststroke but slower than butterfly.
Backstroke is faster than breaststroke but slower than butterfly.
Physicians often prescribe backstroke swimming to people experiencing back problems because it gives the back an excellent workout.
BUTTERFLY SWIMMING STROKES
Butterfly is the second fastest swim stroke after freestyle.
It has a reputation of being hard to learn and is quickly exhausting. But once you have mastered it, swimming a few lengths of butterfly can be a lot of fun!
Teacher’s Activities – Guides and allows people to demonstrate back and butterfly swimming strokes.

As stated in performance objectives or demonstrated by the pupils.

PRESENTATION
To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:
1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;
2. Explains the basic skills in swimming

3. Demonstrates the basic skills in swimming
Pupil’s activities – Perform the skills
CONCLUSION
- To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson (communicable diseases).
