1. Practical Work on Satin Decorative Stitches

2. Practical Work on French Knot Decorative Stitches

3. Produce Articles using Satin and French Knot Decorative Stitches

 

PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES

By the end of the lesson, the pupils should have attained the following objectives (cognitive, affective and psychomotor) and should be able to:

1. describe the steps in making decorative satin and French Knot stitches.

2. produce articles using satin and French Knot stitches.

 

INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS

The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of:

1. Charts showing stages of making stitches

2. Pieces of fabric for making stitches

3. Sewing tools – needle, pins, tapes…

4. An album showing stages of making temporary, permanent and decorative stitches

 

 

METHOD OF TEACHING – Choose a suitable and appropriate methods for the lessons.

Note – Irrespective of choosing methods of teaching, always introduce an activities that will arouse pupil’s interest or lead them to the lessons.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON 

LESSON ONE – SATIN DECORATIVE STITCHES 

 

 

PRACTICAL WORK ON BROWN PAPER –  SATIN STITCHES 

This is simple stitches to work but take a practice to get smooth surfaces and neat edges.

Steps –

1. Mark an outline

2. Work stitches closely together across the outline.

3. Take care to keep a neat edge.

 

Teacher’s/Pupil’s Activities – Demonstrate and Produce articles using Satin decorative stitches. 

 

4. Display of simple Satin decorative stitches on brown paper.

 

 

LESSON TWO – PRACTICAL WORK ON BROWN PAPER – FRENCH KNOT

Steps –

1. Bring the thread out at the required position.

2. Hold thread down with left thumb and encycle thread twice or more with the needle.

3. Hold the thread firmly, twist needle back to the starting point.

4. Insert it close to where the thread first come.

5. Put the thread through the back and secure a single knot or pass on to the position of the next stitch.

 

Teacher’s/Pupil’s Activities – Demonstrate and Produce articles using French Knot decorative stitches. 

 

6. Display of simple French Knot decorative stitches on brown paper.

 

 

WEEK 6 LESSON ASSIGNMENT 

As stated in performance objectives or produce by the pupils. 

 

 

PRESENTATION

To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:

1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;

2. Demonstrates the process of making satin and French Knot decorative stitches.

Pupil’s Activities – Practice the making of satin and French Knot decorative stitches.

Teacher’s/Pupil’s Activities – Produce articles using satin and French Knot decorative stitches.

 

CONCLUSION

  • To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson.

 

LESSON EVALUATION

Pupils to:

1. describe the steps in making satin and French Knot decorative stitches.

2. make specimens of satin and French Knot decorative stitches.
