CONTENT OF THE LESSON  

LESSON 1 – INTRODUCTION

Any group of people living together in a country, state, city, or local community has to live by certain rules. The system of rules and the people who make and administer them is known as a government.

 

MEANING OF GOVERNMENT 

A government is a group of people that have the power to rule a country, state, city or local community according to the law.

 

TYPES OF GOVERNMENT 

There are two types of government,

1. Traditional Government – Monarch and Oligarchy government

2. Constitutional Government – Presidential and Parliamentary government

 

 

LESSON 2 – TRADITIONAL AND CONSTITUTIONAL GOVERNMENT 

MEANING AND TYPES OF TRADITIONAL GOVERNMENT

Traditional government is a government that is ruled by Kings, Queens, privileged or powerful.

There are two types of traditional government – monarch and oligarchy government.

1. Monarch is a traditional government that is ruled by the kings or queens.

2. Oligarchy is a traditional government in which a small group of people hold most or all political power.

 

CONSTITUTIONAL GOVERNMENT 

Constitutional government is a government that is ruled by the rules of laws. For example, the president, prime minister, governors, etc.

There are two types of constitutional government – presidential and parliamentary government.

1. Presidential Government is a form of government in which the president and others are elected directly by the people. In this government, the powers of the executive and the legislature are totally separated. The head of state and of the government is known as the president.

2. Parliamentary government is a form of government in which the head of state is different from the head government. The heads state is a ceremonial head while the constitutional power is within the cabinet which headed by the prime minister.

 

LESSON 3 – Revision and Weekly Assessment (Test), As stated the performance objectives or lesson evaluation. 

 

 

PRESENTATION

To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:

1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson based what he/she has taught the pupils or the lesson learnt by them.

2. Teacher organizes the pupils into groups depends on the size of class.

3. Teacher displays chart showing different types of government in Nigeria.

4. Teacher lets pupils identify each government by name and title. For example – the current president, state government and recognize chief or king in their community.

5. Teacher uses the chart and the pupils relevant responses to introduce the lesson and leads a class discussion on the meaning and types of government with appropriate examples.

Pupil’s Activities – The pupils pay attention to the lesson introduction and participate actively in the class discussion on the meaning and types of government.

6. Teacher summarizes the lessons on the board using appropriate lesson evaluation.

Pupil’s Activities – The pupils participate actively in the summary of the lesson by responding correctly to most of the questions and write as instructed.

 

 

CONCLUSION

To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson.
