PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES

By the end of the lesson, the pupils should be able to state the reasons for the food we eat, water we drink and drug we take when we are ill.

 

ENTRY BEHAVIOUR

The pupils can state the importance of food, water and drugs in the body.

 

INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS

The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of showing different foods, drinks and drugs.

 

METHOD OF TEACHING

Choose a suitable and appropriate methods for the lessons.

Note – Irrespective of choosing methods of teaching, always introduce an activities that will arouse pupil’s interest or lead them to the lessons.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON

LESSON 1 – INTRODUCTION 

Substances are what we eat, drink or inhale that make us healthy. The food we eat, the water we drink and the drugs we take in our body give us a lot energy.

 

SUBSTANCES TAKEN INTO THE BODY

There are three (3) types/forms of substances that we take into our body.

1. Food

2. Water

3. Drugs

 

REASONS FOR TAKING FOOD 

Food is important for life. To be healthy and active, we should make sure that the food we eat are enough and also it must be safe and rich in all the nutrients needed our body.

Food we eat provides our bodies with what they need,

1. To stay alive, be active, move and work;

2. To build new cells and tissues for growth;

3. To stay healthy and heal themselves;

4. To prevent and fight infections.

 

LESSON 2 – REASONS FOR TAKING WATER AND DRUGS

REASONS FOR TAKING WATER

The reasons for taking water is that it helps us,

1. To keep a normal temperature.

2. Tí boost our energy.

3. To lubricate and cushion joints.

4. To protect your spinal cord and other sensitive tissues.

5. To get rid of wastes through urination, perspiration, and bowel movements.

 

REASONS FOR TAKING DURGS

Drugs are one of the substances that we take mostly especially when we are sick or weak. There are different types of drug. The drugs recommended by the doctors and the drugs that are not recommended. The drugs recommended by doctors are good for our health and they are called medicines.

The reasons for taking medicines are as follows:

1. To make us well again.

2. To make us feel better when we are sick.

3. To keep us from getting sick in the first place.

4. To fight sickness in our body.

Note – Teacher Lets the pupils note that substance taken into the body includes food, water and drugs.

 

LESSON 3 – REVISION AND WEEKLY ASSESSMENT (TEST)

As stated in the performance objectives or lesson evaluation.

 

PRESENTATION

To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:

1. Teacher revises the previous lesson based what he/she has taught in the previous lesson or the pupils experience.

2. Teacher organizes the pupils in groups depending on the size of the class.

3. Teacher displays chart showing food, water and drugs.

4. Teacher lets the pupils identify and discus the reasons for taken food, water and drugs.

Pupil’s Activities – The pupils identify and discus the reasons for taken food, water and drugs.

5. Teacher uses the chart and the pupils relevant responses to introduce the lesson and leads a class discussion on substances taken into the body.

Pupil’s Activities – The pupils pay attention to the lesson introduction and participate actively in the class discussion on the substances taken into the body.

6. Teacher explains the reasons for taken food, water and drugs.

Pupil’s Activities – The pupils listen attentively to the teacher’s explanation and appreciate the importance of food, water and drugs in life.

7. Teacher summarizes the lesson on the board using appropriate lesson evaluation.

Pupil’s Activities – The pupils participate actively in the summary of lessons by responding correctly to most of the questions and write as instructed.

 

CONCLUSION

To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson.
