3. reasons for taking substances into the body.
ENTRY BEHAVIOUR
The pupils can identify and the reasons we eat food, we drink water or take drugs.
INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS
The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of substances we take into our body.
METHOD OF TEACHING
Choose a suitable and appropriate methods for the lessons.
Note – Irrespective of choosing methods of teaching, always introduce an activities that will arouse pupil’s interest or lead them to the lessons.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON
LESSON 1 – INTRODUCTION
Substances are what we eat, drink or inhale that make our body healthy. There are three (3) types/forms of substances – solid, liquid and gas.
For examples,
1. Food – solid
2. Drink – liquid
3. Drugs – liquid and solid
4. Inhaler – gas, etc.
REASONS FOR TAKING SUBSTANCES
People have different reasons for taken substance into their body. Some of the reasons are,
1. To stay alive
2. Hunger
3. Thirst
4. Enjoyment
5. Imitation
6. Curiosity
7. Availability, etc.
LESSON 2 – REVISION AND WEEKLY ASSESSMENT (TEST)
As stated in the performance objectives or lesson elevation.
PRESENTATION
To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:
1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;
2. Teacher organizes the pupils in groups depending on the size of the class.
3. Teacher displays sample or chart showing different substances.
4. Teacher lets the groups identify and state the reasons why people take substance.
Pupil’s Activities – The pupils examine the chart and state the reasons for taking substances into the body.
5. Teacher uses the sample, chart and the pupils relevant responses to introduce the lesson and leads class discussion on the reasons for taking substances into the body.
Pupil’s Activities – The pupils pay attention to the lesson introduction and state other reasons for taking substances into the body.
6. The calls on the groups to demonstrate the reasons why people take substances into the body.
7. Teacher organizes the pupils in groups or pairs to dramatize the reasons for taking substances into the body.
Pupil’s Activities – The pupils demonstrate and dramatize in pairs or groups the reasons for taking substances into the body.
9. Summarizes the lesson on the board with appropriate lesson evaluation.
Pupil’s Activities – The pupils participate actively in the lesson summary by responding correctly to most of the questions and write as instructed.
CONCLUSION
To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson.
