CONTENT OF THE LESSON

INTRODUCTION

Emergencies can happen suddenly at home, school, or in public places. During an emergency, it is important to remain calm and seek help from the appropriate personnel.

Security agents and emergency personnel are trained to respond to different dangerous situations. Knowing who to contact can help protect lives, property, and the community.

In this lesson, pupils will learn about security agents and the personnel to contact during different types of emergencies.

LESSON 1 – MEANING OF EMERGENCY

An emergency is a sudden and serious situation that requires immediate action to protect people, property, or the environment.

MEANING OF SECURITY AGENTS

Security agents are trained personnel responsible for protecting people, property, and communities and responding to security threats.

Examples include:

1. Police officers – Maintain law and order, prevent crime, and respond to security threats.

2. Firefighters – Respond to fires and help rescue people from dangerous situations.

3. Emergency medical personnel – Provide immediate medical assistance to people who are injured or seriously ill.

4. Civil Defence personnel (NSCDC) – Help protect lives and property and support public safety.

5. Military personnel – Help protect the country and respond to serious security threats when required.

6. School security personnel – Help maintain safety and security within school premises.

7. Private security guards – Protect people and property in places such as homes, offices, and businesses.
