CONTENT OF THE LESSON

INTRODUCTION

Have you ever watched a movie or stage drama? The people who perform different characters in a play or movie are called actors and actresses. They use their voices, facial expressions, and body movements to tell stories and entertain people.

In this lesson, pupils will learn the meaning of acting, who an actor and an actress are, identify some popular Nigerian actors and actresses, and perform a short play.

LESSON 1 – MEANING OF ACTING

Acting is the art of performing the role of a character in a play, movie, television programme, or stage performance to entertain, educate, or tell a story.

WHO IS AN ACTOR OR ACTRESS?

• An actor is a man or boy who performs a role in a play, film, or drama.

• An actress is a woman or girl who performs a role in a play, film, or drama.

POPULAR NIGERIAN ACTORS AND ACTRESSES

Some popular Nigerian actors and actresses include:

1. Yoruba

• Actors: Odunlade Adekola, Femi Adebayo, Ibrahim Chatta, Muyiwa Ademola.

• Actresses: Funke Akindele, Sola Sobowale, Toyin Abraham, Iyabo Ojo.

2. Hausa

SUMMARY

In this lesson, pupils learned that acting is the art of performing the role of a character in a play, drama, or movie to entertain, educate, or tell a story.

Pupils also learned that an actor is a male performer, while an actress is a female performer. They identified some popular Nigerian actors and actresses, such as Pete Edochie, Richard Mofe-Damijo, Ramsey Nouah, Genevieve Nnaji, Funke Akindele, Mercy Johnson, and Rita Dominic.

Furthermore, pupils learned the qualities of a good actor or actress, including confidence, clear speech, creativity, discipline, teamwork, and the ability to memorise lines.

Finally, pupils practised acting a short play, using appropriate facial expressions, body movements, and voice projection to perform confidently before the class.

PRESENTATION

To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:

Step 1: Introduction – The teacher asks pupils if they have ever watched a movie, drama, or stage play. The teacher explains that the people who perform the different characters are called actors and actresses.
