LEARNING OBJECTIVES
By the end of the lesson, pupils should be able to:

ENTRY BEHAVIOUR
The pupils already know that a sentence contains a subject and a verb. This lesson teaches them different ways of arranging a sentence.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON
INTRODUCTION
A sentence can be written in different ways depending on who is doing the action.
In English, we have two main ways of writing sentences:
- Active Voice
- Passive Voice
ACTIVE VOICE
Active voice is when the subject of the sentence performs the action.
Examples:
- The boy kicks the ball.
- The teacher teaches the lesson.
- Mary washes the clothes.
In these sentences, the subject is doing the action.
PASSIVE VOICE
Passive voice is when the object of the sentence receives the action.
Examples:
- The ball is kicked by the boy.
- The lesson is taught by the teacher.
- The clothes are washed by Mary.
In these sentences, the action is done to the subject.
IMPORTANCE OF THE LESSON
This lesson helps pupils to:
- understand sentence structure.
- write sentences in different forms.
- improve grammar and writing skills.
- communicate clearly in English.
Pupils should pay attention and practise changing sentences from active voice to passive voice.
STRUCTURE
1. Active Voice: Subject + Verb + Object
Example: The boy ate the food.
2. Passive Voice: Object + helping verb + past participle + by + subject
Example: The food was eaten by the boy.
More Examples
1. The farmer planted maize. → Maize was planted by the farmer.
2. The girl cleaned the room. → The room was cleaned by the girl.
3. The teacher marked the books. → The books were marked by the teacher.
4. Mother cooked the rice. → The rice was cooked by Mother.
5. The pupils sang a song. → A song was sung by the pupils.
