CONTENT OF THE LESSON
INTRODUCTION
Road accidents can happen when road users do not follow safety rules. Speeding, careless driving, disobeying traffic rules, and careless crossing are some common causes of road accidents.
Road users can help prevent accidents by behaving properly on the road and obeying road signs.
In this lesson, pupils will learn about the causes of road accidents, good road behaviour, and road signs and their meanings.
LESSON 1 – MEANING OF ROAD ACCIDENT
A road accident is an unexpected event that happens on the road and may cause injury, death, or damage to vehicles and property.
CAUSES OF ROAD ACCIDENTS
Road accidents can be caused by:
1. Speeding – driving too fast.
2. Careless driving – driving without proper attention.
3. Disobeying traffic rules – not following road safety laws.
4. Drunk driving – driving after taking alcohol or drugs.
5. Using a phone while driving – taking attention away from the road.
6. Poor vehicle maintenance – using a vehicle that is not in good condition.
