WEEK 10 – COMPASSION
MEANING OF COMPASSION
Compassion means showing kindness, care, and concern for others, especially those who are suffering or in need.
EXAMPLES OF COMPASSION
1. Helping a sick neighbour
2. Giving food to someone who is hungry
3. Comforting a friend who is sad
CHARACTERISTICS OF COMPASSION
Kindness – Being gentle and caring
Understanding – Feeling and understanding the suffering of others
Patience – Being calm when helping others
Generosity – Willingness to give help or support
Empathy – Putting yourself in someone else’s shoes
Peaceful behaviour – Promoting harmony through caring actions
HOW TO DEMONSTRATE COMPASSION
1. Help people in need without expecting reward.
2. Visit the sick or provide support to the vulnerable.
3. Share food, clothes, or resources with the poor.
4. Listen to someone’s problems and offer comfort.
5. Be polite, patient, and kind to everyone.
HOW GOVERNMENT POLICY CAN SOLVE THE PROBLEMS of DISUNITY
Disunity occurs when people are divided because of differences in tribe, religion, or region.
Government can help to solve the problems of disunity by:
1. Promote equality – Treat all citizens fairly regardless of tribe, religion, or gender.
2. Create national programs – Schools, sports, and community projects that bring people together.
3. Enforce laws – Punish acts of discrimination, violence, or hate speech.
4. Encourage dialogue – Organise meetings to solve conflicts peacefully.
5. Support cultural diversity – Celebrate all cultures to build respect and understanding.
