CONTENT OF THE LESSON  

LEARNING AREA – INTRODUCTION   

Religion is the belief in and worship of God or gods. There are three types of religion in Nigeria – Christian, Muslim and Traditional religions.

 

RELIGIOUS BODIES IN NIGERIA 

Religious bodies are the religious group of people with related common practices, faith and beliefs.

 

These bodies develop its members by teaching moral values.

 

EXAMPLES OF RELIGIOUS BODIES IN NIGERIA 

1. Traditional Religious Bodies

Traditional religious bodies are the Sango worshippers, the Obatala worshippers, the Amadioha worshippers and the Olokun worshippers.

 

2. Christian Religious Bodies 

Christian religious bodies are the Roman Catholic, the Church Missionary Society (CMS), the Baptist and the Pentecostal Movement, among others.

 

3. Islamic Religious Bodies

Islamic religious bodies are the Ansar-ud-deen, the Ahmadiyya and the Nawar-ud-deen sects, among others.

 

ROLES OF RELIGIOUS BODIES IN NATIONAL DEVELOPMENT 

The roles of religious bodies Nigeria are –

1. Preaching of love and peace

2. Provision of education

 

3. Provision of health facilities and services

4. Encouragement of peaceful coexistence

5. Provision of social amenities such as roads, water, markets, etc.

6. Putting their members in check.

7. Interpret the law and order in Nigeria.

8. Teaching religion tolerance.

 

PRESENTATION

To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:

1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;

2. Explains the of religious bodies.

Pupil’s Activities – Listen to the teacher’s explanation.

3. Guides pupils to give examples of each religious bodies – Traditional, Christian and Muslim religious.
