WEEK 2 – CHORAL SINGING

MEANING OF CHORAL SINGING

Choral singing is the act of singing together as a group, led by a conductor or leader, to produce one pleasant sound.

CLASSIFICATION OF CHORAL SINGING

1. Unison Singing – All singers sing the same tune and words at the same time. Common in Primary schools.

2. Part Singing – Singers are divided into different voice parts singing different notes. For examples: Soprano, Alto, Tenor, Bass

3. Call and Response Singing – A leader sings first (call), The group replies (response). Common in African traditional songs

 

PRACTICE AND PERFORMANCE OF A CHORAL PIECE

PRACTICE STAGE 

1. Choose a simple and familiar song

4. Sing slowly at first, then gradually increase speed
