CONTENT OF THE LESSON

INTRODUCTION

An expository essay is a type of writing that explains, describes, or gives information about a topic. It presents facts clearly to help readers understand a subject.

In this lesson, we will learn about drug abuse.

A drug is a substance used to prevent or treat illness. Drugs can be helpful when they are taken according to a doctor’s instructions. However, when a person uses drugs wrongly or without proper medical advice, it is called drug abuse.

Drug abuse is harmful because it can affect a person’s health, behaviour, and ability to learn. Children should avoid taking medicines without the permission of their parents, guardians, or doctors.

Through this lesson, pupils will learn the meaning, causes, effects, and prevention of drug abuse and how to write an expository essay on the topic.

EXPOSITORY ESSAY: Drug Abuse

Drug abuse is the wrong use of drugs or medicines. It happens when a person takes drugs without a doctor’s prescription or takes more than the required amount.

Some people abuse drugs because of peer pressure, curiosity, or bad influence from friends. Examples of commonly abused drugs include alcohol, cigarettes, and medicines taken without proper guidance.

Drug abuse can cause serious health problems. It can affect the brain, heart, and other parts of the body. It may also lead to poor performance in school and bad behaviour.

To prevent drug abuse, children should obey their parents and teachers, avoid bad friends, and take medicines only when prescribed by a doctor. Drug abuse should be avoided because it is harmful to health and society.
