TOPIC – EXPRESSING FUTURE ACTIONS IN THE NEGATIVE

PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES 

By the end of the lesson, most pupils should have attained the following objectives (cognitive, affective and psychomotor) and should be able to –

1. make correct sentences in the simple future tense, and

2. respond correctly to interrogative sentences using contracted forms of “will” and “shall”.

INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS

The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of:

1. Sentence strips

2. Course book

3. Other supplementary resources like newspapers or magazines.

METHOD OF TEACHING

Choose a suitable and appropriate methods for the lessons.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON  

EXPRESSING FUTURE ACTIONS IN THE NEGATIVE

The simple future tense is used to describe an action or event which is yet to take place. This action can be positive or negative.

Negative action in the simple future tense have the following structure –

1. We will be going to church next Sunday.

• We will not be going to church next Sunday.

2. Mummy, will we eat rice today?

• No, we will not.

3. I will write to her.

• I will not write her. 

4. He will come.

• He will not come. 

 

QUICK EVALUATION

Expressing future actions in the negative –

1. We will be waiting for them.

2. He will be writing a story.

3. They will be visiting us next month.

4. They shall be helping us.

PRESENTATION

To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:

1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;

2. Teacher explains and demonstrates what future action is.

Pupil’s Activities – Pupils listen to the teacher’s explanation.

3. Teacher gives examples and asks questions in the future tense.

Pupil’s Activities – Give examples themselves. Ask and answer teacher’s questions.

4. Summarizes the lesson on the board.

Pupil’s Activities – Copy as the teacher writes.

CONCLUSION

To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson.
