At the end of the lesson, pupils should be able to:

The pupils have already practised basic tenses. In this lesson, they will extend their knowledge to include present perfect tense and past continuous tense.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON
INTRODUCTION
Tenses show the time an action takes place.
TYPES OF TENSES
1. Present Tense – Shows action happening now or regularly.
Examples:
- I play football.
- She reads a book.
- I eat rice every morning.
- She reads her book daily.
- They play football after school.
- He goes to school early.
- We write in our exercise books.
- The boy drinks water.
- My mother cooks food.
- The children sing songs.
- I brush my teeth every morning.
- The teacher teaches English.
2. Past Tense – Shows action that happened before now.
Examples:
- I played football.
- She read a book.
- I ate rice yesterday.
- She read her book last night.
- They played football after school.
- He went to school early.
- We wrote in our exercise books.
- The boy drank water.
- My mother cooked food.
- The children sang songs.
- I brushed my teeth this morning.
- The teacher taught English.
3. Present Perfect Tense – Shows an action that happened in the past but is still connected to the present.
Examples:
- I have eaten rice.
- She has gone to school.

4. Past Continuous Tense – Shows an action that was happening in the past for some time.
