LEARNING OBJECTIVES 

By the end of the lesson, pupils should be able to:

1. explain the meaning of tense.

2. identify present, past, and future tenses.

3. use tenses correctly in sentences.

4. change sentences from one tense to another.

5. construct simple sentences using different tenses.

ENTRY BEHAVIOUR

The pupils have previously learned that actions can happen now, have happened before, or will happen later. In this lesson, they will practise using these tenses correctly in speaking and writing.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON

INTRODUCTION

A tense is the form of a verb that shows the time an action takes place.

TYPES OF TENSES

1. Present Tense

Shows an action happening now or regularly. For examples:

  • I play football.
  • She reads a book.
  • They go to school.
  • I come to school early.
  • She drinks milk every day.
  • We buy books at the market.
  • He sleeps on the bed.
  • They clean the classroom.

2. Past Tense

Shows an action that happened before now. Foe examples:

  • I played football.
  • She read a book.
  • They went to school.
  • I came to school early.
  • She drank milk every day.
  • We bought books at the market.
  • He slept on the bed.
  • They cleaned the classroom.

3. Future Tense

Shows an action that will happen later. For examples:

  • I will play football.
  • She will read a book.
  • They will go to school.
  • I will come to school early.
  • She will drink milk tomorrow.
  • We will buy books at the market.
  • He will sleep on the bed.
  • They will clean the classroom.

SUMMARY

Tenses help us show when an action happens. The three basic tenses are Present Tense, Past Tense, and Future Tense. Using the correct tense makes our speaking and writing clear and meaningful.

PRESENTATION
