LESSON 1 – INTRODUCTION

GOD’S GIFT OF HIS SON

“For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life” John 3:16.

“Thanks be unto God for His unspeakable gift” II Corinthians 9:15.

God held the world so dear that He gave His only begotten Son for everyone who will trust in Him. And how did He give Him? He gave Him in His birth as man, in order to be forever one with us.

VISIT OF ANGEL GABRIEL TO MARY AND JOSEPH

In Luke 1:26-38, God sent the angel Gabriel to Nazareth with a message for Mary, who was promised in marriage to Joseph. The angel told Mary that she would have a son, whom she was to name Jesus. The angel said, “He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High God.”

Mary asked how this could be as she was a virgin. The angel answered, “The Holy Spirit will come on you, and God’s power will rest on you.” He also told Mary that her elderly relative Elizabeth was six months pregnant, for there is nothing that God cannot do. Mary replied, “I am the Lord’s servant”.

LESSON 2 – BIRTH OF JESUS

Emperor Augustus ordered a census to be taken throughout the Roman Empire. Everyone had to register in his own town. Joseph went to Bethlehem, as he was a descendant of David.

Mary, who was pregnant, went with him. While they were in Bethlehem, the time came for her to deliver her baby. She gave birth to her first son, wrapped him in strips of cloth and laid him in a manger (a trough for animal feed) because there was no room for them in the inn, Luke 2:4-7.
