This lesson builds on that knowledge by introducing Internet browsers, the software applications used to open websites and access information on the Internet.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON

INTRODUCTION

Before anyone can visit a website or search for information online, a special application called an Internet browser is needed.

In this lesson, pupils will learn the meaning of Internet browsers, the different types of Internet browsers, and their uses in accessing information on the Internet.

LESSON 1 – MEANING OF AN INTERNET BROWSER

An Internet browser (or web browser) is a software application used to access, open, and view websites and web pages on the Internet.

It helps users search for information, visit websites, watch videos, and perform many online activities.

TYPES OF INTERNET BROWSERS

Some common Internet browsers are:

1. Google Chrome – Google Chrome is a fast and popular Internet browser developed by Google. It is used to browse websites, search for information, watch videos, and download files.

2. Mozilla Firefox – Mozilla Firefox is a free Internet browser developed by the Mozilla Foundation. It is known for its speed, privacy, and security features.

3. Microsoft Edge – Microsoft Edge is an Internet browser developed by Microsoft. It comes pre-installed on most Windows computers and is used for browsing the Internet.

4. Safari – Safari is an Internet browser developed by Apple. It is mainly used on Apple devices such as Mac computers, iPhones, and iPads.

5. Opera – Opera is an Internet browser developed by Opera Software. It includes useful features such as a built-in ad blocker, free VPN, and battery-saving mode.

6. Brave – Brave is an Internet browser designed with a strong focus on privacy and security. It blocks unwanted advertisements and trackers to provide faster and safer browsing.

LESSON 3 – INTERNET BROWSERS: PRACTICAL ACTIVITIES

1. Turn on the computer and connect it to the Internet.

2. Locate the icons of different Internet browsers such as Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Microsoft Edge, Safari, Opera, or Brave (depending on the computer).

3. Double-click the Google Chrome icon (or any available browser) to open it.

4. Identify the Title Bar, Address Bar (URL Bar), Tabs, Back Button, Forward Button, Refresh Button, and Home Button.

5. Type a website address (URL), for example www.google.com⁠, and press Enter.

6. Use the browser to visit an educational website.

7. Open a new tab and switch between tabs.

8. Use the Back and Forward buttons to move between web pages.

9. Use the Refresh button to reload the current web page.

SUMMARY
