DEFINITION OF KHALIFA 

Khalifa or Khalifah (Arabic: خليفة) is a name or title which means “successor”, “ruler” or “leader”.

It most commonly refers to the leader of a Caliphate, but is also used as a title among various Islamic religious groups and others. Khalifa is sometimes also pronounced as “kalifa”.

NAMES OF KHULAFA AL-RASHIDUN 

The first four caliphs who succeeded Muhammad are known as the Rashidun (rightly-guided) Caliphs.

1. Abu Bakr (c. 573–634; r. 632–634)

2. Umar ibn al-Khattab (c. 583–644; r. 634–644) – often known simply as Umar or Omar

3. Uthman ibn Affan (c. 573–656; r. 644–656) – often known simply as Uthman, Othman, or Osman

4. Ali ibn Abi Talib (c. 600–661; r. 656–661) – often known simply as Ali

 

BRIEF HISTORY OF ABUBAKAR, UMAR UTHMAN AND ALI 

ABUBAKAR

Abu Bakr Abdullah ibn Uthman Abi Quhafa (Arabic: أَبُو بَكْرٍ عَبْدُ ٱللهِ بْنِ عُثْمَانَ أَبِي قُحَافَة; c. 573 – 23 August 634) was the senior companion and was, through his daughter Aisha, a father-in-law of the Islamic prophet Muhammad, as well as the first caliph of Islam.

He is known with the honorific title al-Siddiq by Muslims.

 

UMAR UTHMAN

ʿUmar ibn al-Khaṭṭāb (Arabic: عمر بن الخطاب, also spelled Omar, c. 583/584 – 644) was the second Rashidun caliph, ruling from August 634 until his assassination in 644.

He succeeded Abu Bakr (r. 632–634) as the second caliph of the Rashidun Caliphate on 23 August 634.

Umar was a senior companion and father-in-law of the Islamic prophet Muhammad.

He was also an expert Muslim jurist known for his pious and just nature, which earned him the epithet al-Faruq (“the one who distinguishes (between right and wrong)”).

 

UTHMAN IBN 

Uthman ibn Affan (Arabic: عثمان بن عفان, romanized: ʿUthmān ibn ʿAffān; c. 573/576 – 17 June 656), also spelled by the Turkish and Persian rendering Osman, was a second cousin, son-in-law and notable companion of the Islamic prophet Muhammad, as well as the third of the Rāshidun, or “Rightly Guided Caliphs”.

Born into a prominent Meccan clan, Banu Umayya of the Quraysh tribe, he played a major role in early Islamic history, and is known for having ordered the compilation of the standard version of the Quran.

When Caliph Umar ibn al-Khattab died in office aged 60/61 years, Uthman, aged 68–71 years, succeeded him and was the oldest to rule as Caliph.

 

ALI 

ʿAlī ibn Abī Ṭālib (Arabic: عَلِيّ بْن أَبِي طَالِب; c. 600 – 28 January 661 CE) was a cousin, son-in-law and companion of the Islamic prophet Muhammad.

He ruled as the fourth rightly guided caliph from 656 until his assassination in 661.

He is one of the central figures in Shia Islam as the first Shia Imam and in Sunni Islam as the fourth of the “rightly guided” (rāshidūn) caliphs (name used for the first four successors to Muhammad).

He was the son of Abu Talib and Fatimah bint Asad, the husband of Fatima, and the father of Hasan, Husayn, Zaynab, and Umm Kulthum.

CONTENTS OF THE LESSON

FOCUS LESSONS 

WHO IS A NEIGHBOUR

A neighbour is a person who is living near or close to one another.

 

EXAMPLE OF HOW TO BE A GOOD NEIGHBOR 

1. A good neighbor must be friendly.

2. A good neighbor must be helpful.

3. A good neighbor must be trustworthy.

4. A good neighbor must be respectful.

5. A good neighbor must be considerate of noise.

6. A good neighbor must be generous.

7. A good neighbor must be remember people and their names.

8. A good neighbor must be available and say yes when he/she can.

9. A good neighbor must be resourceful.

10. A good neighbor must be involved and get other involved in the growth and development of their community.

11. A good neighbor must share with one another.

 

THE CONCEPT OF NEIGHBORLINESS

Neighborliness is the characterization of a good neighbour.

That’s, the quality of being friendly or helpful to your neighbors.

 

THE ISLAMIC INJUNCTION ON GOOD NEIGHBORLINESS 

1. Doing good to neighbors who may even be strangers.

2. Treating one’s neighbor with respect and duty.

3. Loving a neighbor like family.

4. Those who fulfil the rights of neighbors are blessed.

5. Respecting neighbors is a duty upon Muslims.

6. Helping out a neighbor in need may end up helping you as well.

7. Not fearing your neighbors.

8. One must not trouble their neighbors.

9. Treating your neighbor like your mother.

10. Believing in the Prophet means believing in helping out your community and neighbors.
