TOPIC: NIGERIAN AND FOREIGN MADE GOODS 

PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES

By the end of the lesson, the pupils should have attained the following objectives (cognitive, affective and psychomotor) and be able to:

1. explain the meaning of goods and services;
2. mention some foreign – made and Nigerian – made goods;
3. give reasons why Nigeria’s goods and services should be valued;
4. list Nigeria’s exports and imports;
5. state the benefits of international trade to the nation.

INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS

The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of carts of Nigerian and foreign made goods.

METHOD OF TEACHING – Choose a suitable and appropriate methods for the lessons.

Note – Irrespective of choosing methods of teaching, always introduce an activities that will arouse pupil’s interest or lead them to the lessons.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON

INTRODUCTION

GOODS AND SERVICES 

Goods are items that are usually (but not always) tangible, such as pens, salt, apples, and hats.

Services are activities provided by other people, who include doctors, lawn care workers, dentists, barbers, waiters, or online servers, etc.

NIGERIAN AND FOREIGN MADE GOODS 

Some of the materials we use in Nigeria are made in Nigeria while other goods are made in other countries like China, America, England, Germany, and so on. Therefore, there are Nigerian and foreign made goods.

SOME OF NIGERIAN MADE GOODS 

1. Shoes
2. Bags
3. Furniture
4. Ceramics
5. Car e.g. IVM cars, etc.

SOME OF FOREIGN MADE GOODS 

1. Motor car e.g. BMW, Volkswagen, Mercedes, etc.
2. Mobile phones
3. Computers
4. Electronic equipments
5. Wrist watches, etc.

NIGERIAN IMPORTS AND EXPORTS

International trade is the movement of goods from one country to another. The movement of these goods are known as imports and exports. Imports are the good that come into our country. While exports are the goods that we sell to other countries.

Some of the goods that Nigeria export are:

1. Agricultural products – timber, palm produce, local rice, cashew nut, cocoa, rubber, etc.
2. Minerals resources – crude oil, etc.
3. Finished products – clothes, leather materials, etc.

BENEFITS OF INTERNATIONAL TRADE

1. Getting foreign exchange
2. Transfer of technology
3. Friendly relationships
4. International peace, unity and harmony

VALUING NIGERIAN – MADE GOODS 

Some of the reasons why we should value Nigerian – made goods are:

1. National pride
2. Better life
3. Improve our standard of living
4. Enjoyment
5. National growth and development
6. Encourage hardworking

PRESENTATION

• To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:

1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;
2. Discusses with the class why Nigerian – made goods should be valued;
3. Pupil’s Activities – Give 5 reasons why we should value Nigerian – made goods.
4. List some of the goods made in Nigeria;
5. Pupil’s Activities – List some of the goods made in Nigeria and other countries.
6. Lists import and export goods in Nigeria;
7. Pupil’s Activities – Differentiate between between export and import.

CONCLUSION

• To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson – resources development.
