CONTENT OF THE LESSON

LESSON 1 – INTRODUCTION 

Emergency phone numbers are numbers that allow you to contact local emergency services such as local ambulance, fire department, police department, physician, etc. for assistance.

Government emergency lines are lines that allow you to contact each of government agencies directly apart from using 112 emergency phone number.

 

 

LAGOS STATE EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT AGENCY 

The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) was established vide LASEMA Law 16 of 2008 for emergency and disaster management in the State in pursuance to decree 12 of 1999 as amended by Act No. 50 of 1999 which established the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA).

The Agency is responsible for the overall co-ordination of emergency management in Lagos State, working closely with all its Stakeholders. It came into existence in February 2007, the legal framework establishing LASEMA was signed into Law on July 22nd, 2008 by His Excellency, Mr. Babatunde Raji Fashola (SAN)

The Agency was statutorily charged to provide adequate and prompt response as well as sustaining intervention in all forms of emergency/disaster situations in the State within the territorial boundary called “Lagos”. It performs this onerous task through Emergency/Disaster prevention preparedness, mitigation, recovery and relief.

LESSON 2 – LAGOS STATE TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT AUTHORITY (LASTMA)

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) was set up in July 2000 to fill the gap created by inadequate traffic management at that time. It is an Agency supervised by the Lagos State Ministry of Transportation, supported by legislation of the Lagos State House of House of Assembly, the latest being the Lagos Transport Sector Reformed Law of 2018.

It was also established to transform the State Transportation System to ensure free flow of traffic in the state and to reduce accidents.

 

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF LASTMA 

1. Control, Management and Regulation of Traffic-related matters within Lagos metropolis.

2. Public Education and Enlightenment of drivers and motorists on the proper use of the highways.

3. Traffic Safety and Accident Management.

5. To ensure hitch-free traffic flow on Lagos roads.

6. To develop culture of Regulation, Control and Management of Traffic operations statewide.

LESSON 3 – NIGERIA POLICE FORCE 

The Nigeria Police Force is the principal law enforcement agency in Nigeria. It has staff deployment across the 36 states of the country and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). The command and control of the Nigeria Police Force is under the Inspector General of Police.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE NIGERIA POLICE FORCE

The duties and responsibilities of Nigeria Police Force as stated in Section 4 of the Police Acts and Regulations are as follows:

PRESENTATION
