CONTENT OF THE LESSON
INTRODUCTION
A parent is a father or mother who gave birth to us and provides care, love, and guidance. Our father and mother they are our parents.
MEANING OF PARENTAL CARE
Parental care is a way our parents care and provide for all our needs. But when a child lack adequate care and attention expected from their parents, it is known as denial of parental care. This is mostly happen due to death, incarceration, or parental separation.
EXAMPLES OF PARENTAL CARE
1. Parents prepare food for their children.
2. Parents provide proper nutrition for their children.
3. Parents protect their children from physical danger.
4. Parents provide a safe environment for their children.
5. Parents give love, comfort, and attention to children during stress, sadness, or joy.
6. Parents teach their children moral values.
7. Parents help their children with homework.
8. Parents encourage learn as they are growing.
9. Parents take care their children when they are sick.
10. Parents helping children build friendships.
11. Parents teach their children on how to respect others.
EFFECTS OF DENIAL OF PARENTAL CARE
Denial of parental care is a situations where children lack adequate parental care due to various reasons, including parental loss, neglect, or absence. This can have serious, lasting effects on children’s development, well-being, and overall life outcomes such as,
1. The children are exposed to abuse or danger.
2. The children lack parental care and attention.
3. The children lack basic nutritional food.
4. The children may feel unloved or unworthy.
5. The children may feel neglected and abandoned.
6. The children may struggle to learn in the school.
7. The children may have difficulty on how to read and write in the school.
8. The children may not be able to associate with other children or become shy or avoid social interaction.
9. The children may become aggressive or develop behavioral problems or lash out.
10. The children may struggle with sharing, empathy, or cooperation.
LESSON PRESENTATION
To deliver this lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:
1. Teacher revises the previous lesson based on what hr/she has taught or what the children have learnt.
2. Teacher displays charts/flashcards showing children with adequate parental care and children lacking adequate parental care.
3. Teacher lets the children study the chart, identify the different between the children on the charts.
4. Teacher guides the children on some of the things not mentioned in the charts.
Children’s Activities – The children identify and describe as guided by the teacher.
5. Teacher uses the chart and the children’s relevant responses to introduce the lesson, explain the meaning and examples of parental care.
Children’s Activities – The children pay attention to the lesson introduction, understand the meaning and appreciate the importance of parental care and attention in their lives.
6. Teacher uses the song, some have food… to explain the effects of denial of parental care on other children.
Children’s Activities – The children sing along with the teacher and listen attentively as he/she explain the effects of denial of parental care on other children.
7. Teacher summarizes the lesson by asking the children questions based on the lesson taught and gives the children work to do at home.
