LEARNING OBJECTIVES 

By the end of the lesson, most of the pupils should have attained the following objectives –

1. explain the meaning of danger.

2. state the source of dangers.

3. discuss the meaning of insecurity.

4. mention the dangers of insecurity.

5. differentiate between dangers and insecurity.

 

 

ENTRY BEHAVIOURS 

The pupils can identify and state some of the dangers around them.

 

 

INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS

The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of video clips.

 

 

METHOD OF TEACHING

Choose a suitable and appropriate methods for the lessons.

Note – Irrespective of choosing methods of teaching, always introduce an activities that will arouse pupil’s interest or lead them to the lessons.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON  

LESSON 1 – INTRODUCTION

Danger is the possibility that something harmful will happen.

Harm can be caused by people, animals, things and other factors.

 

 

SOURCES OF SOURCE OF DANGERS 

Sources of danger are places, persons or things that cause danger or harm. For examples,

1. Sleepy floor or wet floor

2. Broken bottles

3. Unwanted materials

4. Uncovered well

5. Strangers

6. Swampy area

7. Busy road

8. Playing with sharp objects

9. Fire

10. Defect electronics or machines, etc.

Note – The above are common sources of dangers for the children. 

 

 

LESSON 2 – MEANING AND DANGERS OF INSECURITY

MEANING OF SECURITY 

Security is the state of being free from all dangers or harms at home, in the school or anywhere you are.

 

 

MEANING OF INSECURITY

Insecurity is when you are not feeling safe or free from dangers.

The feeling of anxiety, fear, doubt, panic, trouble, worry, etc. are signs of insecurity.

 

 

DANGERS OF INSECURITY

The dangers of insecurity in the communities are as follows:

1. It make people to be restlessness.

2. It causes people to loss  their lives and properties.

3. It decreases growth and development.

4. It discourages both local and foreign investors.

5. It makes people abandon their indigenous home.

6. It makes people to become refuge in foreign countries.

7. It make the whole area to be inhabitants.

 

 

LESSON 3 – REVISION AND WEEKLY ASSESSMENT (TEST) 

 

 

PRESENTATION

To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:

1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;

2. Teacher organizes pupils in groups or pairs depending on the size of the class and available instructional materials.

3. Teacher displays chart showing the harms caused by people, animals and other factors.

4. Teacher asks pupils to examine, identify and describe their causes.

Pupil’s Activities – Learners identify and discuss like harms in their environment if not check. For example, flood.

5. Teacher listens to the pupils and uses their relevant responses to introduce the lesson.

Pupil’s Activities – Learners pay attention to the lesson introduction to understand the concept of danger and insecurity.

6. Teacher leads pupils to identify the source of dangers within and around the school.

7. Teacher uses the activity 7 to lead a discussion on the meaning and source of dangers at home, school and in their communities.

Pupil’s Activities – Learners identify like danger in the school and how to prevent them.

8. Teacher displays chart showing police station, firefighters van, etc. and other security apparatus.

9. Teacher asks pupils to state the reasons why all these things are in place in their communities.

10. Teacher uses the pupil’s relevant responses to leads a discussion on the meaning and dangers of insecurity.

Pupil’s Activities – Learners explain the meaning of insecurity and their dangers.

11. Teacher summarizes each lesson on the board with appropriate lesson evaluation.

Pupil’s Activities – The pupils participate actively in the summary of the lesson by responding correctly to the questions and write as instructed.

 

 

CONCLUSION

To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson.
