The pupils can describe nuclear family and mention other members of the family.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON
INTRODUCTION
Family is made up of father, mother and their children.
This family is also known as nuclear family.
Other types of family is known as extended family.
STRUCTURE OF AN EXTENDED FAMILY
1. Uncle – The brother of one’s mother or father.
2. Aunt – The sister of one’s mother or father.
3. Nephew – The son of one’s brother or sister.
4. Nieces – The son of one’s brother or sister.
5. Grandparents – The father of one’s father/The mother of one’s father/The father of one’s mother/The mother of one’s mother.
6. Father in law – Father of one’s husband or wife.
7. Mother in law – Mother of one’s husband or wife.

MEANING OF EXTENDED FAMILY
Extended family is made of people who are related to one another by blood.
LESSON 2 – STRUCTURE CHART OF NUCLEAR AND EXTENDED FAMILY
Teacher organizes pupils in groups or pupils depending on the size of the class and available instructional materials.

PRESENTATION
To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:
1. Revises the previous lesson based on the pupils related knowledge or understanding.
2. Teacher organizes pupils in groups or pupils depending on the size of the class and available instructional materials.
3. Teacher displays charts showing nuclear and extended families.
4. Teacher lets pupils compare and tell the different between both families.
Pupil’s Activities – Identify other family members that are not in a nuclear family.
4. Teacher uses the charts and pupil’s relevant responses to introduce the lessons – meaning and structure of extended family.
Pupil’s Activities – Learners pay attention to the lesson introduction to understand the concept of the lesson.
5. Teacher uses the meaning of nuclear family to guide pupils to identify and explain extended family as the relatives and in laws.
Pupil’s Activities – Learners understand extended family as additional members of the nuclear family.
6. Teacher summarizes the lesson on the board using appropriate lesson evaluation.
