CONTENT OF THE LESSON

INTRODUCTION

An adverb is a word that adds more meaning to a verb, adjective, or another adverb. Adverbs usually tell us how, when, where, or how often something happens.

TYPES OF ADVERBS

1. Adverbs of Manner (How?) They show how something is done.

Examples: quickly, slowly, carefully, neatly

Sentences:

  • She writes neatly.
  • The boy ran quickly.

2. Adverbs of Time (When?) They show when something happens.

Examples: today, yesterday, soon, now

Sentences:

  • I will go to school today.
  • They arrived yesterday.

3. Adverbs of Place (Where?) They show where something happens.

Examples: here, there, everywhere, outside

Sentences:

  • The children are playing outside.
  • Come here.

4. Adverbs of Frequency (How often?) They show how often something happens.

Examples: always, often, sometimes, never

Sentences:

  • I always pray before sleeping.
  • She sometimes comes late.

PRESENTATION

To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:

1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher writes simple sentences on the board such as: She runs. He speaks. and asks pupils how the actions are done.

Pupils’ Activities: The pupils respond by suggesting words that describe how the actions are done.

2. The teacher explains the meaning of adverbs as words that describe verbs, adjectives, or other adverbs.
