2. Samples of foods from the locality.

Note – Irrespective of choosing methods of teaching, always introduce an activities that will arouse pupil’s interest or lead them to the lessons.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON  

INTRODUCTORY ACTIVITIES 

Teacher’s/Pupil’s Activities – Ask the pupils,

  • what is your favourite food?
  • mention 5 common foods your locality.
  • explain what food is?

Pupil’s Activities – Each pupil state his/her favourite food, state common food in their locality and define food.

Pupil’s Activities – Listen to the pupils and give a cheer for their respond to questions. Discuss the meaning of food and types of

 

MEANING OF FOOD

Foods are solid or liquid substances that gives essential nutrients to the body.

 

 

TYPES OF FOOD GROUPS 

1. Vegetables – Tomato, cabbage, okro, pepper, onion, carrot, etc.

2. Fruits – Orange, mango, pawpaw, apple, pineapple, banana, etc.

3. Grains, legumes, nuts and seeds – Rice, wheat, beans, maize, guinea corn, millets, breads, pasta, noodles, etc.

4. Meat and poultry – Cow, goat, chicken, eggs, etc.

6. Seafood – Fish, crab, crayfish, etc.

6. Dairy foods – Milk, yoghurt, cheese and/or alternatives.

 

The above can be further grouped into –

1. Body building food.

2. Body regulating food.

3. Body protection food.

4. Body energy food.

 

PRESENTATION

To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:

1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;

2. Explains the meaning of food.

Pupil’s Activities – Listen to the teacher’s explanation and define food.

3. Asks pupils to mention different food in their locality and guide them to group according to type.

Pupil’s Activities – Mention common food their locality and participate in food grouping.

 

CONCLUSION

  • To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson.
