PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES 

By the end of the lesson, most of the pupils should have attained the following objectives –

1. explain the meaning of soil.

2. state the importance soil.

 

 

ENTRY BEHAVIOR

The pupils can identify and state the importance of land and soil.

 

 

INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS

The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of soil samples.

Choose a suitable and appropriate methods for the lessons.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON

LESSON 1 – INTRODUCTION

Soil is one of the essential components of land. It consists of particles of rock, different kinds of soil and organic material.

Land is the surface area of the earth which is not covered by water.

 

 

MEANING OF SOIL 

Soil is the upper layer of the earth where plants grow.

There are three (3) major soil,

  • Sandy soil
  • Clay soil
  • Loamy soil

 

 

TYPES OF SOIL

1. CLAY SOIL 

Clay soil is the solid parts of the soil used for moulding and building of houses.

 

2. SANDY SOIL

Sandy soil is the loose parts of the soil used for building of houses and construction of roads.

 

2. LOAMY SOIL 

Loamy soil is the best parts of the soil used for growing crops.

It combines the good parts of clay and sandy.

 

 

LESSON 2 – IMPORTANCE OF SOIL

Soil is very important because –

1. It is used to grow plant.

2. It provides nutrients for plants grow.

3. It provides home for your many animals and living things.

4. It is used to build houses, schools, etc.

5. It used for moulding.

 

 

REVISION AND WEEKLY ASSESSMENT

 

 

PRESENTATION

To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:

1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;

2. Displays sample of soil and asks pupils, what is this?

Pupil’s Expected Responses – Soil or sand.

3. Uses the sample of soil collected to introduce meaning of soil.

Pupil’s Activities – Pay attention to the lesson introduction to understand the meaning of soil.

4. Takes pupils out to collect different sample of soil.

5. Lets the pupils examine and differentiate between the soil under the following – texture, colour and size.

6. Uses the different sample of soil collected to leads a discussion on different types of soil.

Pupil’s Activities – Examine the soil collected and differentiate.

8. Displays chart showing the importance of soil. For examples – chart showing growing plants, building, animals living inside the soil, etc.

9. Tells the pupils, the contents of the of the chart show the importance of soil.

10. Asks pupils to state and discuss with their pair, the importance of soil.

Pupil’s Activities – State the importance of agriculture.

11. Summarizes the lesson on the board.

Pupil’s Activities – Participate actively in the summary of the lesson and write as instructed.

 

 

CONCLUSION

To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson.
