### LESSON 1 – MAINFRAME COMPUTER

Mainframe computers are second largest and powerful computer by size.

### SIZE OF MAINFRAME COMPUTER

A mainframe computer’s size depends primarily on its age. The modern mainframe is considerably smaller – often approximately the size of a large refrigerator.

### SPEED OF MAINFRAME COMPUTER

The speed of large computers can be 70-100 mips of more.

### LESSON 2 – USES OF MAINFRAME COMPUTER

Mainframe computers are large-scale computer systems.

They are designed to process and store very large amounts of information (data) that smaller systems such as PCs cannot handle.

It can support hundreds and often thousands of users and computer professionals.

They are used by government agencies such as the Internal Revenue Service, Electoral Commission and Census commission, vote computations, individual tax records, payroll, etc.
