CONTENT OF THE LESSON
LESSON 1 – MAINFRAME COMPUTER
Mainframe computers are second largest and powerful computer by size.
SIZE OF MAINFRAME COMPUTER
SPEED OF MAINFRAME COMPUTER
The speed of large computers can be 70-100 mips of more.
LESSON 2 – USES OF MAINFRAME COMPUTER
Mainframe computers are large-scale computer systems.
They are designed to process and store very large amounts of information (data) that smaller systems such as PCs cannot handle.
It can support hundreds and often thousands of users and computer professionals.
They are used by government agencies such as the Internal Revenue Service, Electoral Commission and Census commission, vote computations, individual tax records, payroll, etc.
Small and large retail companies use mainframes to register sales, update stock and manage inventory levels.
PRESENTATION
To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:
1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;
2. Display chart showing mainframe computer.
Pupil’s Activities – Identify and describe the physical part of mainframe computer.
3. Discusses the size, speed and uses of mainframe computer.
Pupil’s Activities – Identify the size, speed and uses of mainframe computer.
4. Summarize the lesson on the board.
Pupil’s Activities – Copy as the pupils write.
CONCLUSION
To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson.
