PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES 

By the end of the lesson, the pupils should have attained the following objectives (cognitive, affective and psychomotor) and should be able to –

1. explain what moulding is.

2 identify methods of modelling – pinching and coiling method.

3 mould objects with clay or plastercine.

 

ENTRY BEHAVIOUR

Clay sand

 

INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS

The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of:

Clay/plastercine, wooden boards, spatulas, blunt knives, string, water, moulds.

 

 

METHOD OF TEACHING – Choose a suitable and appropriate methods for the lessons.

Note – Irrespective of choosing methods of teaching, always introduce an activities that will arouse pupil’s interest or lead them to the lessons.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON  

INTRODUCTION 

Moulding is the way of making objects in a local form with clay sand.

 

 

METHODS OF MOULDING OBJECTS 

1. Pinching method

Pinching method is the method of using free hand, pressing clay with thumb to make and shape objects.

 

2. Coiling method

Coiling method is the method of using containers or vessels and other tools to make and shape objects.

 

3. Slab Method

This is the method of moulding ceramic sculptures from flat slabs of clay. Examples of modelled objects obtained by using this method are ashtrays, tiles, cups, etc.

 

MAKING POTTERIES WITH CLAY SOIL USING COILING METHOD 

Teacher’s/Pupil’s Activities – We have a cup using pinching method, we are now using coiling method for modeling.

Note – If the tools are available.

 

SPRAYING OF FINISHED WORKS

PRESENTATION

To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:

1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;

2. Explains the methods of moulding.

Pupil’s Activities – Listens to teacher’s explanation on methods of moulding.

2. Demonstrates the:

  • Pinching method.
  • Coiling method.

Pupil’s Activities – Observe teacher’s demonstration on how to use pinching and coiling methods to produce models.

 

CONCLUSION

  • To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson.
