CONTENT OF THE LESSON 

LESSON 1 – INTRODUCTION

Simple sewing tools are basic tools that are used in sewing. The tools are commonly used by beginners or for simple sewing tasks because there are easy to use, affordable, and readily available.

 

 

EXAMPLES OF SIMPLE SEWING TOOLS 

1. Sewing machine

2. Hand sewing needles

3. Pins

4. Seam ripper

5. Scissors

6. Measuring tape

7. Thread of different colours fabrics

8. Thimble for cutting

9. Sewing gauge

10. Iron and ironing board

11. Tailor’s chalk

12. Brown paper

 

USES OF SIMPLE SEWING TOOLS 

1. Sewing machine is essential for sewing projects.

2. Hand sewing needles are in a variety pack of hand sewing needles in different sizes can be useful for different projects.

3. Pins are straight pins are used to hold fabric pieces together before sewing.

4. Seam ripper is a tool that is carefully used to remove seams and stitches.

5. Scissors are used for cutting fabric.

 

 

6. Measuring tape is used for measuring fabric and taking body measurements.

7. Threads are used or holding materials together temporarily or Permanently.

8. Thimble is used for protecting the finger while pushing the needle through thick fabrics or multiple layers.

9. Sewing gauge is a tool that is used to measure and mark small distances accurately.

10. Iron and ironing board are used for crisping seams and give a professional look.

 

 

LESSON 2 – CARES FOR SIMPLE SEWING TOOLS

To ensure the longevity and performance of your simple sewing tools, it is important to take proper care of them. Here are some tips for caring for your simple sewing tools:

NEEDLES

1. After using needles, make sure to remove any thread or fabric debris from them.

2. Store needle in a needle case or pincushion to prevent them from bending or breaking.

3. Avoid bending or forcing needles, as this can damage them.

4. Protect needle, pins thimbles with white powder.

 

 

PINS

1. Keep pins in a pincushion or pin container to prevent them from getting lost or scattered.

2. Do not leave pins on the floor or in fabrics, as they can create hazards.

3. Clean pins regularly to prevent rust or corrosion by wiping them with a dry cloth.

 

SCISSORS

1. Always use fabric scissors for cutting fabric and paper scissors for other tasks.

2. Keep scissors clean and dry to prevent rust.

3. Avoid cutting through pins or other sharp objects as it can damage the blades.

4. Sharpen the blades if they become dull.

5. Scissors used for cutting materials should not be used to cut paper.

 

 

MEASURING TAPES 

1. Store measuring tapes rolled up to prevent them from getting twisted or bent.

2. Avoid pulling or stretching them too forcefully, as it can affect their accuracy.

3. If the tape gets dirty, wipe it clean with a damp cloth.

 

THREAD

1. Store thread spools in a cool and dry place to prevent them from fading or becoming brittle.

2. Avoid exposing threads to direct sunlight.

3. If the thread gets tangled, gently untangle it to prevent breakage.

 

THIMBLES

1. Clean thimbles regularly to remove any dirt or oils.

2. Rubbing them with a soft cloth or washing them with mild soap can help keep them clean.

3. Replace thimbles if they become worn or damaged.
