CONTENT OF THE LESSON

INTRODUCTION

In the previous lesson, we learned about traditional marriage and how different communities conduct marriage according to their customs and traditions.

Today, we will learn about modern marriage. Modern marriage may be conducted according to Christian, Muslim, or civil legal practices.

Christian marriage may take place in a church and may include prayers, Bible readings, vows, and the exchange of rings. Muslim marriage, also called Nikah, follows Islamic principles and may include a marriage contract and Mahr. Marriage by ordinance is a civil marriage that is legally recognised and registered under applicable law.

In this lesson, pupils will learn the main features and values of Christian and Muslim marriage and the meaning and features of marriage by ordinance.
