PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES
By the end of the lesson, the pupils should have attained the following objectives –
1. explain the meaning of community.
2. mention the types of community.
ENTRY BEHAVIOURS
The pupils can state two or more streets that made up of their community.
INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS
The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of:
1. Pupils’ textbooks.
2. Pictures.
3. Charts.
4. Video clips.
5. Drama of different communities.
6. Members of the class.
METHOD OF TEACHING
Choose a suitable and appropriate methods for the lessons.
Note – Irrespective of choosing methods of teaching, always introduce an activities that will arouse pupil’s interest or lead them to the lessons.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON
LESSON 1 – INTRODUCTION
MEANING OF COMMUNITY
Community is a collection of a group of people in a given place.
TYPES OF COMMUNITY
1. Traditional community
2. Modern community
3. School community
TRADITIONAL COMMUNITIES
Traditional communities are small communities of people govern by rules and regulations.
The tradition communities are villages and small towns.
Both villages and small towns are ruled by traditional rulers.
In the community, people often speak the same language and have common ways of life.
The people generally know each other well.
MODERN COMMUNITIES
Modern communities are big communities of people with different languages and ways of life.
Modern communities are large towns and cities.
Most of the people do not know each other very well.
The communities are ruled by government or private officials.
The people often use modern equipment such as TV, radios and cars.
THE SCHOOL COMMUNITY
The school is also a community.
The head teacher is the head of the school community.
We spend a lot of our time there as a day or boarding.
LESSON 2 – REVISION AND WEEKLY ASSESSMENT (TEST)
PRESENTATION
To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:
1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;
2. Take pupils out for a walk within and around school’s community.
3. Asks pupils view questions about their community. For example, what is the name of this street?
Pupil’s Activities – Answer questions about their community.
4. Uses pupil’s responses to introduce the lesson.
5. Explains the meaning of community.
Pupil’s Activities – Pay attention to the lesson introduction, learn and explain the meaning of community.
6. Lists types of communities.
Pupil’s Activities – Identify types of communities.
7. Summarizes the lesson on the board.
Pupils Activities – Participate actively in the summary and write as instructed.
CONCLUSION
To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson – members of communities.
LESSON EVALUATION
Asks pupils to:
1. explain the meaning of community.
2. differentiate between traditional and modern types of community.
