CONTENT OF THE LESSON
LESSON 1, WEEK 1 – WEEK 5
WEEK 1 – Meaning and Types of Family
Family is made up of father, mother and their children.
A family is made of people who are related to one another by blood. This family is called extended family. Other members of the family are uncle, aunt, niece grandparents, etc.
Nuclear and extended families are main types of family. Nuclear family is made up of the father, mother and their children.
LESSON EVALUATION
Ask pupils to –
1. explain the meaning of family.
2. state 3 other members of the family.
3. identify types of family.
WEEK 2 – Members of Nuclear and Extended Family
Nuclear family is made up of father, mother and their children.
Extended family is made up of father, mother and their children with other members of the family such as uncles, aunts, nieces, siblings, grandparents and children and great grandparents and children, etc.
LESSON EVALUATION
Ask pupils to –
1. explain the meaning of family.
2. identify types of family.
3. identify each member of their family as either nuclear and extended family.
4. demonstrate how to show respect different members of the family.
WEEK 3 – Functions | Roles of Extended Family Members
Parents are responsible to provide their children the necessary food, clothing, education, medical care, etc.
Children are responsible to provide their parents to support daily, honour and respect their parents, etc.
The roles of an extended family are assisting the direct parent in the child’s upbringing, extended family members give the child a social identity and they also help in keeping family history.

1. identify a nuclear family and the extended family.
2. explain the roles each family member plays in raising a child.
LESSON 4 – Meaning of Marriage
Marriage is a lawful and acceptable union of a man and woman to make up a family.

1. explain the meaning of marriage.
2. identify major types of marriages in our community.
WEEK 5 – Types of Marriage (Primary 3)
Monogamy and polygamy marriages are the most common types of marriage.
Monogamy marriage is a union of a man and a woman.
Polygamy marriage is a union of man with two or more wives.

Ask the pupils to –
1. explain the meaning of marriage.
2. identify major types of marriages in our community.
LESSON 2, WEEK 6 – WEEK 10
WEEK 6 – Marriage Practices in Nigeria – Functions of Marriage Individual Lives and Community
A lawful and acceptable marriage practice in our community must be done in a proper way.
The various, proper forms of marriage in Nigeria are:
1. The stage of marriage is agreement by the two families by paying bride price.
2. The second stage is traditional marriage.
3. The third stage court wedding.
4. The last stage is religious marriage either in the church or mosque.

Ask the pupils to describe how marriages are contracted.
WEEK 7 – Objects used in Marriage
Objects used in marriage are palm wine, kola and bitter cola, food items, etc.

Ask pupils to mention the objects used in contracting marriage.
WEEK 8 – Meaning and Types of Drugs
Drugs are any substance other than food which when taken can change the body function.
Drugs can be naturally or chemical drugs and classified as modern and traditional drugs.

Ask pupils to –
1. identify and explain the meaning of drugs.
2. state the types of drugs.
WEEK 9 – Identification of Modern Drugs – Meaning and Types of Modern Drugs
Modern drugs are man made drugs and chemical in nature. These are produced by mixing chemical compounds together e.g. cough syrup, panadol, etc.
Drugs can be in form of liquid, solid and gas.
LESSON EVALUATION
Ask pupils to –
1. identify and explain the meaning of modern drugs.
2. state the types of modern drugs.
WEEK 10 – Identification of Local Herbs – Meaning and Types of Traditional Drugs
Traditional drugs or herbs are found in nature.
Naturally occurring drugs e.g. honey, salt, alcohol, caffeine in Kolanut, bitter leaf, palm wine, etc.
Traditional drugs can also be in form of liquid, solid and powder.

Ask pupils to –
1. identify and explain the meaning of traditional drugs.
2. state the types of traditional drugs.
PRESENTATION
To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:
1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;
2. Discuss each lessons of first term’s work.
Pupil’s Activities – Active participation in the class discussion.
3. Summarizes the lesson on the board.
Pupil’s Activities – Copy as the teacher writes.
CONCLUSION
To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson.
