They also participated in simple physical fitness activities such as jogging, stretching, balancing, sprinting, and push-ups.

This lesson builds on that knowledge by teaching pupils how to improve and maintain their physical fitness through regular physical fitness enhancement activities and helping them understand the benefits of exercising regularly for healthy living.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON

INTRODUCTION

Being physically fit is important for healthy living. To remain healthy and strong, people must take part in regular exercises and other physical activities that improve their fitness.

In this lesson, pupils will learn the meaning of physical fitness enhancement, the activities used to improve physical fitness, and the benefits of participating in physical fitness enhancement activities.

LESSON 1 – MEANING OF PHYSICAL FITNESS ENHANCEMENT

Physical fitness enhancement is the process of improving and maintaining physical fitness through regular exercise and physical activities. It helps the body become stronger, healthier, and more active.

ACTIVITIES OF PHYSICAL FITNESS ENHANCEMENT

1. Jogging – Jogging is running slowly to improve fitness.

2. Running – Running is moving quickly on foot to build strength and endurance.

3. Walking – Walking is moving at a normal pace to keep the body active and healthy.

4. Skipping (Rope Jumping) – Skipping is jumping over a rope to improve coordination and fitness.

5. Stretching Exercises – Stretching exercises help the muscles and joints move easily.

6. Push-Ups – Push-ups strengthen the arms, shoulders, and chest muscles.

7. Sit-Ups – Sit-ups strengthen the stomach muscles.

8. Squats – Squats strengthen the legs and hips.

9. Cycling – Cycling helps strengthen the legs and improves heart fitness.

10. Swimming – Swimming exercises the whole body and improves fitness.

11. Dancing – Dancing keeps the body active and improves coordination.

12. Aerobic Exercises – Aerobic exercises are continuous body movements that improve heart and lung fitness.

13. Jumping Exercises – Jumping exercises help strengthen the legs and improve balance.

14. Ball Games (Football, Basketball, Volleyball, etc.) – Playing ball games improves strength, coordination, teamwork, and fitness.

15. Relay Races – Relay races involve running in teams and help improve speed, endurance, and teamwork.

LESSON 2 – BENEFITS (IMPORTANCE) OF PHYSICAL FITNESS ENHANCEMENT ACTIVITIES

LESSON 3 – PRACTICAL DEMONSTRATION OF PHYSICAL FITNESS ENHANCEMENT

The teacher demonstrates simple physical fitness enhancement activities while pupils observe and practise safely under supervision.

1. Warm-Up (2–3 minutes)

  • March or jog slowly on the spot.
  • Stretch the arms, shoulders, waist, and legs.
  • Rotate the ankles and wrists gently.

2. Jogging

  • Pupils jog slowly around the playing area for 1 minute.
  • Keep the body upright and breathe normally.

3. Skipping (Rope Jumping)

  • Hold the skipping rope with both hands.
  • Swing the rope and jump lightly over it.
  • Continue for 20–30 seconds.

4. Stretching Exercises

  • Reach both hands up high.
  • Bend gently to touch the toes.
  • Stretch the arms across the body and hold for a few seconds.

5. Push-Ups

  • Place both hands on the floor or against a wall.
  • Lower the body gently and push back up.
  • Repeat 5–10 times according to ability.

6. Sit-Ups

  • Lie on the back with knees bent.
  • Raise the upper body slightly and return slowly.
  • Repeat 5–10 times.

7. Squats

  • Stand with feet shoulder-width apart.
  • Bend the knees and lower the body slightly.
  • Stand up again and repeat 5–10 times.

8. Jumping Exercise

  • Jump up and land softly on both feet.
  • Repeat several times while maintaining balance.

9. Relay Race Practice

  • Divide pupils into teams.
  • Each pupil runs a short distance and returns before the next pupil starts.
  • Encourage teamwork and fair play.

10. Cool-Down

  • Walk slowly for 1 minute.
  • Take deep breaths.
  • Stretch the arms and legs gently.

GROUP PRACTICAL ACTIVITY

The teacher divides the class into groups.

  • Group 1: Jogging and walking.
  • Group 2: Skipping and jumping exercises.
