TOPIC: BASIC BODY MOVEMENTS IN DANCE
PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES
By the end of the lesson, the pupils should have attained the following objectives (cognitive, affective and psychomotor) and should be able to:
1. Explain the components of body movements in dance.
2. State express concept of time, space and mood
3. State how to respond appropriately to rhythm, tempo of the music.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON
DANCE
Dance involves the movements of all the part of the body – our arms, legs, chest, waist and our head as well. To able to dance well, we need space, time and force (mood).
COMPONENTS OF BODY MOVEMENTS IN DANCE
Space
Space refers to the movement of the dancers through physical space – sideways, forwards, backwards or diagonally.
Time
Time refers to the movement of dancers through time with respect to music, tempo, meter, or rhythm.
Force
Force refers to the movement of dance through the amount of efforts exerted in moving the parts of the body.
PRESENTATION
To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the steps:
1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;
2. Teach how in movement the dancer is free to express feelings and thought.
Pupil’s Activities – demonstrate expressing of feelings and thought.
4. Discusses body movements in relation to time, space and mood.
Pupil’s Activities – explore space without moving from where they are.
5. Teach how to respond to rhythm, tempo and mood of music. Move in a variety of ways as they listen to music.
CONCLUSION
- To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson.
