Basic Science and Technology – Primary 6 Weekly Short Class Lesson Notes for Second Term

WEEK 1 – REVISION OF FIRST TERM WORK

LIVING AND NON-LIVING THINGS

Living things are things that have life. They can grow, move, breathe, feed, reproduce, and die. Examples include humans, animals, and plants.

Non-living things do not have life. They do not grow, breathe, reproduce, or feed. Examples include stones, chairs, water, and books.

GROWING BETTER CROPS

Growing better crops means using good farming practices to increase food production. This includes planting healthy seeds, proper weeding, regular watering, use of manure or fertilizer, pest control, and good soil preparation. These practices help crops grow well and produce high yields.

HUMAN CIRCULATORY SYSTEM

The human circulatory system is responsible for transporting blood around the body. It consists of the heart, blood, and blood vessels (arteries, veins, and capillaries). The system carries oxygen, nutrients, and hormones to body cells and removes waste products like carbon dioxide.

TYPES OF DRUGS

Drugs are substances used to prevent, cure, or control diseases. There are medicinal drugs (such as antibiotics and painkillers) used under medical advice, and hard or illegal drugs (such as cocaine and heroin) which are harmful and dangerous to health.

DRUG ABUSE

Drug abuse is the wrong or excessive use of drugs, especially without a doctor’s prescription. It can lead to addiction, poor health, mental illness, crime, and even death. Avoiding drug abuse helps people live healthy and responsible lives.

HUMAN REPRODUCTIVE SYSTEM

The human reproductive system enables humans to produce young ones.

The male reproductive system includes the testes, which produce sperm.

The female reproductive system includes the ovaries, uterus, and vagina.

This system is also responsible for sexual development and reproduction.

PUBERTY

Puberty is the stage of growth when children develop into sexually mature adults. During puberty, boys and girls experience physical and emotional changes such as growth in height, change of voice in boys, breast development and menstruation in girls, and body hair growth.

HUMAN RESPIRATORY SYSTEM

The respiratory system helps the body to breathe. It includes the nose, trachea, lungs, and diaphragm. Its main function is to take in oxygen needed by the body and remove carbon dioxide as waste during breathing.
