The pupils already know that words can be divided into syllables. This lesson builds on that knowledge by teaching them how to identify, divide, and pronounce polysyllabic words (words with more than two syllables) correctly.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON

INTRODUCTION

Polysyllabic words are words that have more than two syllables. These words are usually longer and may require careful pronunciation.

A syllable is a unit of sound in a word. For example:

  • Cat = 1 syllable
  • Table = 2 syllables
  • Beautiful = 3 syllables
  • Education = 4 syllables
