CONTENT OF THE LESSON
LESSON ONE – INTRODUCTORY ACTIVITIES
Teacher’s Activities – Display chart showing different stages of water purification by improvisation and use of chemical for pupils in their respective groups to examine and discuss.
Pupil’s response – Active participation and discussion in the group’s work.
Teacher’s remark – There are many ways of purifying water. The chart shown water purification by improvisation – the use of filtration and use of chemical – chlorine. Discuss and demonstrate these methods.
MEANING OF WATER PURIFICATION
Water purification is the removal contaminants from water in order make water fit for drinking, cooking, bathing, etc.
TYPES OF WATER PURIFICATION
There are four (4) simple methods of water purification –
1. The improvisation – filtration
- Filtration is the use of physical barrier to remove unwanted substance from contaminated. It is also involved sieving.
2. The use of chemical – chlorine
- The use of chemical is the process adding chlorine to water to kill bacteria, viruses and other microbes in water.
Others are boiling and the use of alum.
LESSON 2 – PRACTICAL DEMONSTRATION OF WATER PURIFICATION BY IMPROVISATION (FILTRATION) AND USE OF CHEMICAL (CHLORINE)
Teacher’s Activities – Guide the pupils to use filtration and chlorine to purify water.
Pupil’s response – Response to the teacher’s instructions.
Teacher’s remark – Celebrate their active participation.
LESSON 3 – REVISION AND WEEK LESSON ASSESSMENT
As stated in performance objectives or lesson evaluation.
PRESENTATION
To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:
1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;
2. Discuss water purification by filtration and the use of chlorine.
Pupil’s Activities – Active participation and practical demonstration of water purification by filtration and chlorine.
CONCLUSION
To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson.
Next Lesson – Purification of Water by Boiling and Use of Alum Primary 3 (Basic 3)
LESSON EVALUATION
Pupils to:
1. explain water purification.
2. state 4 methods of water purification.
3. identify and name purification of water by improvisation and use of chemicals.
4. demonstrate water purification by improvisation and use of chemical.
