PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES 

By the end of the lesson, most pupils should have attained the following objectives (cognitive, affective and psychomotor) and should be able to –

1. recite Psalm 23.

2. enumerate the qualities of a good shepherd.

ENTRY BEHAVIOUR

The pupils can state what is expected of a good shepherd.

INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS

The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of:

1. Picture or drawing of a shepherd tending his sheep.

2. Photograph of Jesus the Good Shepherd.

METHOD OF TEACHING

Choose a suitable and appropriate methods for the lessons.

Note – Irrespective of choosing methods of teaching, always introduce an activities that will arouse pupil’s interest or lead them to the lessons.

WRITING INSTRUCTION 

Copy as I write or draw as I write. This instruction should be given when you need the pupils to write or draw.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON  

LESSON 1 – INTRODUCTORY ACTIVITIES 

Teacher’s Activities – Display chart showing a shepherd tending his sheep with flashcards showing qualities of a good shepherd. For examples, love and hate, kind and unkind, etc. for the pupils to identify the qualities.

Pupil’s Activities – A good shepherd must love and be kind for his sheep, etc.

Teacher’s remark – Jesus is our good shepherd. He loves and cares for us. Lead the pupils to recite Psalm 23.

PSALM 23 – THE LORD IS MY SHEPHERD

1 The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.

2 He makes me lie down in green pastures.

He leads me beside still waters.

3 He restores my soul.

He leads me in paths of righteousness

    for his name’s sake.

4 Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,

    I will fear no evil,

for you are with me;

    your rod and your staff,

    they comfort me.

5 You prepare a table before me

    in the presence of my enemies;

you anoint my head with oil;

    my cup overflows.

6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me

    all the days of my life,

and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord

    forever.

LESSON 2 – QUALITIES OF THE GOOD SHEPHERD

1. He is kind.

2. He is loving.

3. He is caring.

4. He protects.

5. He nurture.

6. He guides.

REVISION AND WEEKLY ASSESSMENT 

As stated in performance objectives or lesson evaluation. 

PRESENTATION

To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:

1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;

2. Leads the pupils to recite Psalm 23.

Pupil’s Activities – Participate by reciting the passage Psalm 23.

3. Identifies the qualities of a good shepherd.

Pupil’s Activities – State the qualities of a good shepherd.

4. Summarizes the lesson on the board.

Pupil’s Activities – Copy as the teacher writes.

5. Assignment – Find out the importance of salt.

CONCLUSION

To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson.
