LEARNING OBJECTIVES 

By the end of the lesson, pupils should be able to:

1. read the dialogue fluently with correct pronunciation.

2. identify the speakers in the telephone conversation.

3. explain the main idea of the dialogue.

4. demonstrate polite expressions used during telephone conversations.

5. answer comprehension questions based on the passage.

ENTRY BEHAVIOUR

The pupils already know how to communicate politely with others. This lesson builds on that knowledge by teaching them how to read, understand, and participate in a telephone conversation.

INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS 

The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of:

1. Printed copies of the dialogue passage.

2. Toy/mobile phone models or pictures of telephones.

3. Flashcards containing key vocabulary and polite expressions from the dialogue.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON

INTRODUCTION

A dialogue is a conversation between two or more people in which they exchange ideas, information, or feelings. For example: A discussion between two friends about their school work.

MEANING OF A TELEPHONE CONVERSATION

A telephone conversation is a discussion between two or more people through a telephone or mobile phone. It involves speaking and listening politely to exchange information without meeting face to face. For example: Calling a friend to ask about an assignment or school activity.

READING PASSAGE: DIALOGUE (TELEPHONE CONVERSATION)

Ade: Hello, good afternoon. May I speak with Chidi, please?

Chidi: Good afternoon. This is Chidi speaking. Who is calling, please?

Ade: My name is Ade. I am your classmate.

Chidi: Oh, Ade! How are you today?

Ade: I am fine, thank you. I called to remind you about our English assignment.

Chidi: Thank you for reminding me. When is it due?

Ade: We are expected to submit it on Friday.

Chidi: That is good to know. Have you completed yours?

Ade: Yes, I finished mine yesterday. If you need help, I can explain some parts to you.

Chidi: Thank you very much. I appreciate your help.

Ade: You are welcome. Please remember to bring the assignment to school.

Chidi: I will. Thank you for calling.

Ade: It was my pleasure. Goodbye.
