LEARNING AREA 

Lesson One – Parts of Flower and Uses of Flower

Lesson Two – Pollination and Types of Pollination

Lesson Three – Fertilization in flowering plants

Lesson Four – Revision

 

TIME – 40 Minutes each.

 

LEARNING OUTCOME 

By the end of the lesson, pupils should be able to:

1. Identify names different flowers

2. Identify parts of flowers

3. State the uses of flower

4. Discuss pollination

5. Fertilization in flowering plants

 

RATIONALE

Life begins when male and female meets to produce young ones of their kind. Most plants develop from seeds which come from the flowers.

Flowers contain both male females reproductive parts. Seeds are formed from the union of both male and female reproductive parts.

 

 

The concept of reproduction is needed for the pupils to understand and appreciate continuity in plant.

 

LEARNING MATERIALS 

The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of:

1. Flowers

2. Charts showing different parts of the flower (with name and without name)

3. Pictures showing flowers and insects (bee, butterfly, etc.).

 

PREVIOUS KNOWLEDGE

Name and function of different parts of flowers with some drawings. But have difficulty in identifying these parts in real life. They observed some insects on flowers.

This experience helps to develop the notion of pollination.
