CONTENT OF THE LESSON

INTRODUCTION

Pupils have learned that government faces many challenges such as corruption, unemployment, poor roads, and insecurity. They have also seen people who are honest and hardworking, as well as people who misuse public money or demand bribes. Good leadership and honest behaviour help government solve these problems and improve the lives of citizens.

In this lesson, pupils will learn about the solutions to government problems, the meaning of good governance, and how bribery and corruption can be prevented to make the country better for everyone.

LESSON 1 – MEANING OF SOLUTIONS TO GOVERNMENT PROBLEMS

Solutions to government problems are the actions taken by the government and citizens to overcome challenges and improve the country.

MEANING OF GOOD GOVERNANCE

Good governance is the proper and honest way of leading a country or community for the benefit of everyone.

Ways of Promoting Good Governance

1. Being honest in leadership.

2. Using public money wisely.

3. Obeying the law.

4. Being transparent and accountable.

5. Providing quality education and healthcare.

6. Creating employment opportunities.

7. Listening to the needs of the people.

LESSON 2 – MEANING OF BRIBERY

Bribery is giving or receiving money, gifts, or favours to get unfair advantages.

Examples of bribery:

MEANING OF CORRUPTION

Corruption is the dishonest use of power or public money for personal gain.

Examples of corruption:

  • Stealing government money.
