CONTENT OF THE LESSON

INTRODUCTION

The Local Government is the level of government that is closest to the people. It provides important services such as maintaining local roads, keeping markets clean, supporting primary schools, and providing primary healthcare. Because it is close to the people, it understands the needs of the community better.

In this lesson, pupils will learn the meaning of Local Government, its importance, and the benefits it provides to the people and the community.

LESSON 1 – MEANING OF LOCAL GOVERNMENT

Local Government is the third and closest level of government to the people. It is responsible for providing basic services and promoting development in local communities.

The head of a Local Government is called the Chairman.

IMPORTANCE OF LOCAL GOVERNMENT

Local Government is important because it:
